I have a Pioneer DV444, I was getting all kinds of Freezing, stop / start play and some blocky play... I just though it was because I was Encoding to close the the bitrate limits of my player.... not so! I read on this forum a few times that some players can't handle high speed burning, so I slowed it down to 4x and everything worked great... also tryed 8x it to works... Just a little FYI. Thanks VCD Help!!

  2. What's your maximum burning speed of your writer? I heard that the advisable safe burning speed is always the half of the top speed of your writer and the media can handle with the media max speed/2 takes the priority.

  3. 4x max to be safe (not much extra time involved)

  4. not necessarily, i dont know wtf im doing wrong but u burnt the movie Final Fantasy (DVDrip) at 16x, you could see the pictures but it was heaps jumpy and when it jumps it goes all blocky (it was impossible to watch) so i thought i should burnt the DVDrip file again, done it at 4x and when i went to watch the movie, it was all green and SO BLOCKY that i couldnt even see the picture. Weird :-?

  5. YUP, slower is better I think. Have had very few problems with synching and weird anamolies burning at 4x. But have made some coasters at 8x.

    My 2 cents.

  6. If your DVD player is designed to read CD-R/W media, then you should be able to burn at any speed you like (assuming your burner and media can handle it).

If you have a DVD player that is NOT designed to do the above, then burn speed (as do MANY other factors) can have an effect on the READABILY of the disc in such a drive.

Lower burn speeds do not mean "better quality" per se -- but they can make a disc easier to read in some DVD drives.

    Regards.
