As the title says, I need help converting an MKV file to be playable on my DVD player. I used to use ConvertXtoDVD, but now that my DVDs have gone dry, I'll be using my USB flash drive. Can any of you guys suggest a good conversion program with very minimal quality loss? Also, what container should I convert in? Thanks!

Which containers and video/audio codecs does your DVD player accept?

I would try avi divx/xvid. Use for example xmedia recode. Use the dvd player preset. Be sure to use max 720x576 pixels resolution / frame size.

Or get a cheap media player thay supports mkv.

Sorry for being a noob but, can't I play the original resolution of the file via the DVD player via USB?

Most dvd players do NOT support HD resolutions. But you could try.

How do I know what codecs are supported by my DVD player? I can't seem to find them in the manual. It's a Samsung HT-Z210

Also, isn't there another way to get it to play without losing quality? It lost a lot of quality after conversion using the tool you recommended.

Take a look at page 42 of your manual:
    Samsung HTZ210 Manual Page 42

    Supported Formats

    WMV (.wmv) 720x480
    DivX (.avi, .asf) 720x480
There are more details concerning bitrates and CODEC versions supported on that page.

If what(codecs - audio and video) is in the MKV file matches what the player accepts.....sure there is a way.
    If not......No.
(This is where you provide more information)

That means that the 1080p videos that I converted using ConvertXToDVD, burned to my DVD and played using the DVD player were only being outputed at 480p? I could've sworn it was 1080p!

Looks like I've hit the end of the road.

"The system supports only the FAT file system and will not play a movie larger than 1 GB in USB mode."

    Time to buy more DVDs.
