  1. I've ripped 6 DVDs now, and have it down pretty well, I would say...but my rips are sometimes slightly choppy and poor quality, compared to the "professional" rips I've seen (For instance, Lord of the Rings was very well done). WHat do they do to get the higher quality, that I seem to be missing?

I use CLadMDec 1.6 to capture VOBs, DVDtoAVI to save the project as a d2v file, and TmpgEnc to encode it as an SVCD.

  2. check your field-order & force film/inverse telecine(if applicable). few settings have as dramatic an effect on your overall results than these 2

  3. what should my field order be?

  4. it depends on your source. the field-order section on my homepage has a common method to check the correct order in tmpgenc

  5. Hi,

    what's important is

do you encode in CBR mode or VBR
do you use the highest bitrate possible for a given movie
    on 2 CD's so that's 2 x 800MB (80 min cdr's)
because the SVCD file format is different from a normal iso cd-r which only stores 700 on a 80min CD-r

I always use VBR so the bitrate used depends on the complexitiy of the scenes and use 4 passes.

  7. have you given cinema craft encoder a try? several tests done by various people have shown that this encoder blows others out the water. so if you can, give it a try. it will be worth the time!

downside: the encoder is not free. but hey...you neva know

  8. Yups!

there is an encoder comparison on the vcdhelp that show
CCE is not only better but also faster than the opponents

  9. Yeah, but CCE costs $$$ unless you want to get the trial version with that f**king iritating logo on it, not to mention must delete and reinstall after 30 day trial. I would love to use the full version but dont have the cash-------wink, wink....Any suggestions?
