SVCD's with DivX quality..

I was just wondering if this would be possible, cause as I figured it out, DivX encodes have better quality than SVCD (MPEG-2) encodes, so anyone can recommend me any set-up to use to get the wanted result? By the way, I'm using SmartRipper, DVD2AVI, VirtualDub/NAndub, VobSub, TMPGEnc, BeSweet bbMPEG and Nero as a "ripping package"..thanx :wink:

Divx does NOT have better quality than SVCDs (you could be comparing to an inferior encode of the SVCD)

dat iis true DivX does not have better quality and compatability.....DivX compresses at so mcuh that if you try to encode a divx to VCD or SVCD it will be bad

Umm, well I thought that too, but one thing confused me.. I've made an DivX encode of a movie, and I got veery good results, and it "cost" me 1.2GB , so i've made an SVCD Encode and I could say that the comparing results were pretty drastical(slow motion scenes not very good looking, background ambient too), and I've noticed that the non-focused scenes in motion don't look very good, but I guess that I'm doing something wrong, but i don;t know what & where...can someone give me a hint or any suggestion? I would really appreciate it.. thanx :wink:

You could try making a SVCD using DVD2SVCD. Use DVD2SVCD default settings.

I tried converting an *.avi (divx) using the AVI2SVCD feature of DVD2SVCD, but it freezes when encoding the video!! does it have anything to do with the divx codec? any suggestions on converting divx to (s)vcd?? thanks in advance

dvd2svcd, i've tried that package and i can really say that it's very practical and it saves you a lot of time and work, but i wanted to find something more configurable, so i choosed the above list of applications which i use to rip dvd to svcd, which 80% of them are used in dvd2svcd...here are my latest 2 encodings, one of it is DivX, and the otherone is SVCD:

Movie length: 102 min 2 sec

DivX:

Resolution: 720x400
Bitrate : 1660kbps
Audio : 128kbps
2-pass encoding using virtualdub

SVCD:

Resolution: 480x576
Bitrate : VBR 1750kbps
Audio : 160kbps

And as i said, the DivX encode looked much better so, i would appreciate if anyone could tell me where I do wrong, and how to make it right thanx...

well, I'm actually using that kind of settings but I still got inferior results comparing to the DivX encode I've checked the encode with BitRate Viewer, and i got 1740 kbps average and 2720 kbps peak..and i'm using high quality motion search and VBR which I think is the most of what you can get from SVCD for a reasonable size (that's what i think), so I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me which setting to change to get the DivX quality if that's possible (giving more sharpness to slow motion scenes and background ambient).. thanx

Way I see it is, DivX playback is always going to be better on a PC.
Now try converting that DivX to SVCD and play it on standalone, its gonna be crappyish.
Play around with the settings and burn a few to CDRW, see what works
best for your standalone!
