1st off- I AM A NEWBIE!! Sorry for the length of this , I just want to be as thorough as I know how to be.

I have been assigned as "Deacon over A/V" @ our church. Here is what I would like to do but am at a loss due to lack of knowledge and experience.

We use a CANON xa10 to record our services, we send the feed thru the mini displayport (Camera side) to rgb cable into a "Zbox" (I believe it is supposed to convert analog and digital signals)($1200.00?). The feed is sent to to monitors in other areas of the church. We can switch on the zbox from a PC feed to camera feed when needed. These feeds go out via VGA (PC) and coaxial (Camera). This was suggested by and installed by a MultiMedia company several years ago.

I simply want to use a extra PC monitor (1-VGA in only) instead of the small view finder on the camera.

I attempted HDMI to VGA to the monitor at the same time but when we sitched the feed form PC to camera on the Zeebox we lost the feed to the monitors in the lobby and nursery. Evidently the HDMI over rides the mini displayport when we do that feed switch. Also, we feed the sound into the camera via L & R xlr inputs from our mixing board instead of the internal mic due to the diatance.
I have read that mini dp is better for resolution than HDMI but cannot find the cables/splitter that will allow the feed to be split this way. Any suggestions.

  2. The description of your inputs and outputs is confusing.
Also, the Canon xa10 does not have a display port out -- so you must mean something else.
Please list the model number of the zbox as well as the external monitor you want near the camera (if I'm understanding correctly.)

This is what the cable end that goes into the camera looks like with rgb at the end going to the zeebox. The monitor is just a DELL computer moniotor with a vga input and power cord.
The "Splitting" of the signal would need to be before it enters the Zeebox.

  4. Switch your cables.

Get an HDMI to component adapter to feed the ZBox from the camera's HDMI port. Such as: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4GW2N47018&cm_re=hdmi_to_component...7018-_-Product

Get a component to VGA adapter to feed the monitor from the camera's proprietary mini-d component output. Such as: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882241180&cm_re=component_to_vga...-180-_-Product

You may need female to female adapters depending on what's on the other end of the mini component cable you've pictured.
