ffmpegX 0.0.9y - OS X 10.5-10.6
ffmpegX 0.0.9y-L r2 - OS X 10.7 Lion (and later)
Note that the old “y” installer had a tiny bit of PowerPC code which required the now-abandoned Rosetta framework for translation to Intel code. Hence the “Bad CPU type”-error. This could be overcome by swapping the bundled gnutar binary for a more recent version, which is already present with the OS, if you were up to that. This was fixed in the later releases.
As Baldrick kindly suggested, iFFmpeg is a frequently updated, modern alternative. One might say its unofficial successor.
