  3. Unfortunately I haven't heard of any way whatsoever to do this without a re-encode, and I've been doing this for about 3-4 years now. If anyone has a way then I'd love to hear it.

Since the DAR is simply a sequence header information it is pretty easy to change it.
There are several tools, EasyChanger, DVDPatcher, BitRate Viewer, ReStream.
All can change the displayed aspect ratio in few minutes. Note, it does not resize, only change the DAR.

  5. As what Truman said. The "DAR" is just some info in each sequence header.

However, it should be noted that SVCDs only support one DAR, which is 4:3. Changing it to something else may lead to funny effects on playback, or the player may simply ignore it and play it as if it were 4:3.

  6. thanks much truman, thats all i needed to know. I figured it was just a spec or something that could be changed easily. The only reason I ask is because i have a widescreen HDTV and i wanted to put a DAR of 16:9 on my vcds.
