I am using a microphone on both XLR inputs on a Canon XF100 When converting MXF files to AVI in order to do editing, there is sound only on one channel when playing back the AVI file. However when playing back the MXF file on the Canon XF Utility, there is sound on both channels. I have tried 3 different MXF converters and I get the same result. Operating system is Win7 64 bit.

    GREAT job.

  3. Your conversion software is probably looking only at the 1st mono track

You would need to mix dual mono tracks to a single L+R stereo if you wanted a single audio track

What kind of "AVI" are you using? ( what compression ? )

Why don't you edit the MXF natively ? What editing software are you using ? Most "pro" level NLE's will be able to edit these natively and access the audio as is

  4. And whatever software you are using, be sure to ingest the entire folder structure of the canon footage -- not just the individual .mxf files.

I am using Pinnacle Studio and it can not open MXF files. The Audio settings on the converter is: AC3 2channels stereo, Sample rate 48000kHz & bitrate is 224.
I need 2 separate channels, one each for each XLR input

2 separate channels, 1 audio track ? or 2 separate audio tracks, mono ? Pinnacle probably can't handle the 2nd option

I would advice to keep uncompresseed audio, instead of AC3 (you incur unnecessary quality loss)

Cornucopia mentioned this in your other thread, but ffmpeg or ffmbc can be used to batch process your video files (batch mix dual mono to stereo). I've done this with a mixed XF100/XF305 project

Answer the previous question about "AVI" - what kind of AVI ? What video compression ?

Another option might be to rewrap into a transport stream (MTS, M2TS, TS) - Pinnacle should able to handle that
