I have just purchased a Dazzle DVC. While the tool works great, I have come to the conclusion that I would get better quality if I could capture in MPEG2 or AVI formats rather that starting with and MPEG1 file, and then convert to VCD. I am going to return the Dazzle DVC, but I still wish to have a piece of hardware that will do the job that I need to get done. Basically, I need to convert analog video to VCD. It will be a few years before I will get a digital video camera. I have a fast system: SONY PCV-RX572, 1.8Ghz, 512 MB RAM, etc.... I do not wish to replace my current graphics card, which eliminates the ATI All-In-Wonder. I would also like to get more with my card than just capturing abilities. I have recently been looking at the Pinnacle Bungee DVD, which captures in MPEG1, 2, and AVI formats; and also has TV watching/recording capabilities. Does anyone know about this card and how well it works? Does anyone recommend another product?

From compusa ad this week, the unit look like a drive ?
It look like a gray box with two blue doors infront.
I also could not find any information on the vender web site.
It must be very new. It is sold for < $300 after rebate. -
I just know that it has a USB connection to your computer. And as far as I can tell, there is no built in Harddrive.

Oh - and the Canopus ADVC-100 seems to be getting some high marks around here for analog to digital capture. I'm going to be ordering one up, and seeing how well it works.

Pinnacle has just announced a VCD Mpeg box like the DVD Solution but only for VCDs to come out at the end of the first Quarter of this year. It'll be inexpensive though at $90 USA. The Bungee apparently only works under Win ME and XP. No Win 98 compatability at all. The ADS DVD Solution works under 98SE as well as XP. The Bungee allows variable bit rates to 9.5 Mbps while the ADS DVD Solution has a CBR setting of 6Mbps max. I'm wondering though if this can't be tweeked in the registry since both units use the same encoding chips. The Canopus apparently won't pass macrovision, one of the main reasons I wanted to get one. I have a lot of old VHS tapes that are not slated for release on DVD anytime soon. Unfortunately, the majority of them are macrovisioned and I can't cap them to my ATI All In Wonder 128 16 Meg AGP card. Both the ADS and Pinnacle devices will pass macrovision.

Oops! Apparently the Canopus ADVC-100 does pass Macrovision. Read the review here as well as the trick to disable Macrovision:

Double oops! It's not Pinnacle, but ADS that has announced a $90US vcd (Mpeg1) maker for the end of the first Quarter...
