I have been successfull at creating a vcd from my home movies via VHS tapes by inputing them into my pc through a s cable, but when I try to input the dvd player into the pc (ati all in wonder) it has trouble reading the signal! Is thier any software that anyone knows of that I can use, the ati software I use is a few years old! and lists 3 inputs 1) svhs connector,2) vhs connector, and 3)cable connector. it appears thier is no input for the dvd but the svhs connector uses the same S cable!
if I could input the external dvd the same as the vhs and convert the input to a avi file (same as I do vhs) then I could create back up vcd for my dvd,s. thanks for ANY help Frosty

Sounds like you have a problem with Macrovision - something that your home movies don't have. You can rip the movies to HD and convert that way, or you can buy a Time Base Corrector (TBC) which in most cases will neuter the Macrovision signal, but these cost about $250. Macrovision works by causing the sync detector circuits on the recording device to be out of sync. If you watch a video tape of a copy made from a Macrovision enabled tape, you will see the picture that goes from overly bright to overly dark. Some tape players can handle this better than others, with some tape players losing sync all together. I imagine that your ATI is having these sync problems.
