  1. I've picked up some WMV files online and would like to burn VCDs of them. How can I convert them to MPEG-1 format? I've tried Premier 6, Roxio 5, and Ulead DVD Movie Factory.

Is there a codec for this or has someone found an easy way to do it?

I did come across a long, convoluted way to do it using GraphEdit from the Microsoft DirectX 8 SDK, but that sounds like a real pain in the butt.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

  2. Yeah there's an easier way. I did the same a while ago. Get TMPGEnc, this will encode them into Mpeg. You have to load each one into TMPGEnc and adjust the settings each time, when you have loads it's a pain.

You will have to mess around with the settings i.e source aspect ratio, as I simply converted to Mpeg for my viewing on my pc. Encode some small clips at 4:3 and 16:9 and see which looks best.

Mine look great but I haven't done it for standalone.

    HTH. :P

  3. Thanks for the info!

I'm running TMPGenc right now and it seems to be working. I'll play with the settings and see what works best for me. I do plan to burn them to VCD so I can watch on TV.

When I figure out what settings work best, I'll post that info.
