Making DVD's

I have the ads usb instant dvd, A dvd-r burner and a dvd+rw burner, I have been able to make a super vcd with nero to play on my computer or dvd player, I wish to make a dvd to play on my player seems like I am doing something wrong as I keep trashing dvd-r disks, and the dvd+rw will play on my computer but not dvd player . The software that came with usb instant dvd doesn't work with either burner, and the software that came with the dvd burners do not recognize the mpeg2 files that usb instant dvd create.
