  1. Hi,

I'm trying to capture capture some deleted scenes from this Nightmare on Elm Street VHS (as seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y__xlLtnay0)...

but I want to capture it without those numbers down at the bottom so that I don't have to use any software to do it that will also convert it.

I've been using Windv for a long time, thanks to this forum, and I also read, looking through

the forum that perhaps avidemux is the best quality for this (hoping for raw DV or something as close as possible to the source).

    p.s.

Also, not sure if this is important, but I'm using Canopus ADVC-110

Not possible. No software can capture and crop.

You could crop the DV in virtual dub or or apply a logo removal filter which will not be perfect but that depends on the background

  3. @DB83 Oh, really? I thought I read that avidemux (and maybe another one, perhaps Pinnacle Studio 7) had a crop and capture feature.

Well, do you know what may be the best software to crop and convert it to .avi with best quality (so I can use AC3 sound)?

I say that because I've never really got along too well with virtualdub when it comes to using codecs and converting and such....

and I'm not sure how good the quality is/if it can convert avi too well with AC3 sound.

Also, because I'm probably going to convert it again after I use whatever software you suggest, unless it has everything I need, which is good quality (in smaller sizes) as well as editing and joining files (I'm using crappy Freemake to do all that, but it doesn't have the crop feature).

    avidemux does NOT capture.

I do not know about Pinnacle. Think about it. The program would have to capture the full frame - DV must be captured full frame - and simultaneously process it (the output could not be DV). So even if it were possible it would not be a very good idea to do it.

  5. @DB83

    Okay, thanks.

Anyone know the best quality software to crop and convert .avi (so as to include AC3)?

(maybe avidemux was what I thinking about for this part, rather than the other part)

Yes. Avidemux can do that with ease.

  7. Just capture it normally, then import it into an NLE, crop the video, export it a lossless codec or uncompressed avi. If you don't already have an NLE, you can download Lightworks. It's free version is basically the same as the paid. It's developed for professional use so there is a slight learning curve.
