  1. Hello, I've installed Mpeg Streamclip for Windows 1.2. When I open a mpeg to edit, it has no timeline. IS there a setting that I'm missing? I saw a vid on youtube on a Mac and it had a timeline. Second question is there a better free mpeg editor to use?

    Thanks

How do you define 'timeline' ?

Mpeg Streamclip has a jog bar so you can move through a video without playing it all. That is not what is normally called a 'timeline'.

Try avidemux as an alternative and just use video:copy, audio:copy, format:mpeg-PS if you want to keep your mpeg as is.

OK this is also from youtube. The lighter grey bar above video/audio PID isn't on mine. That's what I was referring to as the timeline. I want something to just trim the mpegs that I have. Not reincode them. I though Mpeg Streamclip does that.

  4. My issue might be I'm using Quicktime Alternative 1.81 would that be it? I had the real quicktime installed and Mped SC said to install the alternative one.

Ok. We talk about the same thing.

The program IMHO opinion has lost its way. I used it a lot some years ago but then it crashed without good reason. Tried it now and it still crashes when trying to play a vid. If you have quicktime 7 you should not need the qt alternative 1.81. You can not have both AFAIK installed at the same time.

Avidemux, as I explained in 'copy' mode, does not re-encode. And as far as I know neither does the program Baldrick suggested.
