Hello everyone. I have tried a dozen programs to create a DVD with chapter and bitrates of my choice.

Here is what I'm doing. I have a 7"DVD player in my truck, and would like to create a long DVD. I have successfully created a 16 hour DVD with low quality video (1050) and normal audio(128). Remember, it's only on a 7" so the video doesn't really matter. I can create a DVD no problem in many programs, but I cannot create one with regular chapter intervals.

    S.U.P.E.R has no chapters
Video to DVD creates a chapter every 53 minutes, and it takes FORRREVER to encode. Around 30 hours.
    DVD Styler crashes
    AVS to DVD crashes
Tmpgenc DVD Author crashes on startup.
Freemake video converter is a super fast authoring program, but it only creates 99 chapters in 5 minute intervals. After 81/2 hours you're on your own to skip tracks.

I have tried many other trial programs such as ConvertX, but they do not allow bitrates of only 1050.

So could someone point me in the right direction for either a DVD Authoring program to accomplish the task as explained above, or can I just use the video from FREEMAKE and edit my own chapters somehow?

I would have thought if you attempt to create a NON-standard DVD then your player will refuse to play it.

99 is the maximum number of chapters allowed. To go beyond that you need to create more titles (again a max of 99 titles per disk) with each title in its own vob set. One-click programs can not do that (well I do not know of any)

Now if you really want to attempt such a long dvd, do not attempt full-di encoding. Irrespective of the screen size your video will be highly pixelated.

The answer is to encode at VCD spec ie 352*288. Then your can reduce the bitrate and AVStoDVD may not crash. As long as the video is DVD compliant (VCD spec is dvd-compliant) it should not attempt to reencode. Even so, 16 hours may be two much. DVD recorders will do this up to 10 hours.

I still have the chapters problem.

The encoding was fine for an 800x600 resolution and looks pretty good on my 7" screen. I bet I could go an hour or so more until it gets pixelated to the point it drives me up the wall.

Your resolution is the reason why these programs are crashing - they can not convert the video in to a proper dvd spec.

If you are creating a xVID/data disk it may be different but then you have no chapters.

If your video is under the 4.3 gig disk size AND dvd-compliant - and for that sort of length you really must pre-encode at VCD spec before importing it into the authoring program - it should not be re-compiled.

As for the chapters I thought that AVStoDVD can create them as and where you want them as long as you do not create more than 99.

Have you tried to use a real encoder, one such as the very good and free HCEnc? And as DB83 suggests, make it 352x288 for PAL DVD compliancy. You can use any bitrate you like.

    15000 (25fpsx60secondsx10 minutes)
    30000
    45000
    60000
    75000
    90000
    105000
    .
    .
Then load the Celltimes.txt in File->Import Chapter.
