How to connect to get best results ?

Hello all

I have a little connection problem with my system... I've tried the logical thinking already, but I think it isn't my thing... make's me going

Anyway, this is the config :
1) The Monitor : Samsung LED XL2370: DVI - HDMI - audio out (jack) - SPDIF

2) The Speakers : Logitech Z323 (2 litttle speakers connected to a woofer) The woofer has a red/white "Auxiliary In" (not used now...)

3) The Desktop PC: VIA 7.1 on motherboard (VDECK Software) / SPDIF

Actual connection:

- 2 speakers to subwoofer -> PC audio out

- SPDIF monitor to SPDIF PC (?? use ?? In Win7 I don't see anything to configure this)

- HDMI to HDMI Graphics Board (GTX670)

I do have sound that comes out of the speakers, yet I have a feeling there's more to it than just this.

So, I hope one of you experts can help me out with this and tell me how to connect all this as it should.

PS: the monitor manual says that "This product won't make any sound when only the HDMI cable is connected without a speaker connected"

First of all, I'm assuming you are using the PC for video and audio out to your TV/Monitor and are using external PC speakers. No surround sound external amplifier and no DVD/DB external player.


The SPDIF output on the monitor is just a passthrough for the HDMI audio. It's for plugging into a external surround sound system. And if you are using a DVI>HDMI adapter, they usually don't include audio.

I doubt the PC speakers have digital/SPDIF inputs, so they won't work with SPDIF.

I'm not clear if you want to run SPDIF audio back into the PC for some reason, but PCs don't usually have that external input. It is likely on the motherboard but you would have to make a custom cable.

In your present configuration, if you are getting sound from you PC speakers of the video that's playing on the monitor, then that's likely all correct for your setup. If you want better sound, then use a surround sound amplifier and speakers. That's my present setup. I don't use the audio from the HDMI cable because I have a DVI>HDMI adapter at the PC that doesn't pass audio. I use the SPDIF output of the PC to go to my surround sound amplifier. Works great for PC and video audio.

I hope this isn't all more confusing for you.

Yes, that is correct...

And if you are using a DVI>HDMI adapter, they usually don't include audio. OK, that's clear becoz I noticed the SPDIF on the PC is an output. I'm not using any adapter. Monitor is connected to PC by HDMI cable and my graphics board has a HDMI port. The Monitor manual says that HDMI only covers image only, no sound, and that I'll have to pass via the jack to have sound. So, I connected a cable [audio jack to white / red jacks] between the subwoofer and te monitor.

No, speakers are R/L + subwoofer. One speaker is connected with serial (?) to subwoofer and the jack to the PC. The other speaker with a yellow rca subwoofer. there are also auxilary (red/white) inputs (see up here).

I hope this isn't all more confusing for you. Well yes, it's becoming a bit cofusing...Still nobody who tells me what the purpose is of the jacks, input etc on Monitor and on PC {VIA HD DECK} or Subwoofer...

I think all you need is a 3.5 male to male stereo cable. Which is why I suggested that cable. So for the over all connections. Hdmi out from video card>>>to monitor hdmi input. (you have your ati video card listed in your specs, so I assume that's what your using) Than just the 3.5mm cable output (line out) from the motherboard>>>to the 3.5 mm input on the speakers.
