Hi,
This may not be the right forum for my problem but I've got to start somewhere, or maybe someone may suggest a different site?
I have a genuine version of MM that I bought many years ago, it runs on Win2k. But I am unable to make a successful installation on Windows XP. I have tried both v 8.xxx and 7.5, but the installation process hangs up in a loop, won't finish, and I get an eror msg about a call to, IIRC, something called RCP.
Like so many others, I love MM and hope I may use it with XP instead of Win2k.
BTW, I also tried v10 but the Yahoo versions are a mess.

they took down all the on-line registration servers years ago. mm needed to call home to install. there was a way to use the unregistered version a while ago but i don't know if it still works. first you needed to uninstall all old versions, then use a registry cleaner to remove ALL left over parts in the registry. then install mmjb but click the demo unregistered version and make sure to check the "i am under 13" box. that prevents it from trying to contact the online servers that are no longer there.

Anyone know the version number of the last version b4 Yahoo took over?

I googled mmjb9 and found this version. It installed without problem on my Windows XP computer. I applied my old registration number. It seems to work like the older versions of MMJB including cover printing.

yahoo mmjb was version 10.1, the last i have before that is 10.00.4040. features had already been removed by then. the last of the useful feature rich mmjb versions were the 9s.

I told it I was under 13,I applied the registration number out of habit, not sure it was needed.

I bought that program as well back in the late 90's.....I have it installed on one of my XP computers....had to find a download for the last version a long time ago....works with my serial number....

I must have lost all of my original MMJB installation- including the code. But I have v8 installed on a Win2k drive. I think it is possible to get *illegal* versions and what it takes to get it running. But many version create problmes when I truy on Win XP, I get a RPC error (no errnumber), or a persistent. Buit what aboout Win7, are there any versions that may be used there? Tnks for the tip about below 13, I register my birthyear - 1930. (All my music is 1930 ~ 1950) Guess I'll have to keep trying. I might take a look at Mediamonkey, free version. Can I create playlists, shuffle all I want? I will be using it almost exclusively to run unattended at night via a wireless transmitter so I can listen to it on my radio when I lie awake some nights.

Later versions of IE cause a serious conflict that prevents MMJB from working. There is a fix for it,don't remember it but you could google the problem.

the only way to get it to run in win7 is to use a virtual winXP machine. it's one of those free extras you can install from microsoft i don't now if win8 has such a thing available.

At my age I can only be glad I still can enjoy music but much of the brilliance is gone, for example the highest octave on a piano is nothing but the click of the keys and hammer, no tone at all.
But the MMJB is one impressive hell of a program in so many ways, too bad they botched it.
Take care of your ears, it pays!
