Well I saw it today. I liked it. I didn't love it but I did like it. It was definitely in line with the 2009 Star Trek so it wasn't dramatically different in terms of being good or bad to the other Star Treks that have come before.
I won't say anything about the story just overall impressions.
I wish there would be a way to get back to the 24th century and the established spinoffs of Tng, Ds9 and Voy.
Perhaps they could do a one-off like they've mentioned with the new Star Wars movies that are coming. They have said there will be the 7-9 movies but also at least one "stand alone" movie.
Why not do something like that with Star Trek? Something in line to the Wolverine deal with the Xmen movies have done, you know a solo wolverine movie not directly tied to the others in the series.
I'm sure the principal actors from the 24th century shows wouldn't mind doing a feature film.
Why not get Q involved?
I just hate the idea of all that "future history" being wiped off.
OR what about a tv movie or mini-series?
Yes I know the sets have been torn down and most of the props sold off. But couldn't they do something with the future casts?
------------------------
Back to the movie. I for one did like it as I mentioned. I couldn't figure out which one Nolan North played - the great video game voice actor. It turns out it was some bit crewman part apparently as I watched part of the credits before I left.
Too bad - he'd be great in a larger role in a scifi action movie.
Edit - oh and pm me if you didn't like the makeup change to one of the established aliens that were made in this movie - if you've seen it you probably know what I"m talking about. Don't mention the alien name here - its not totally pivotal to the movie plot but it is a bit unexpected, though not entirely given this races importance to the Star Trek universe.

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I haven't watched it yet but I plan to. Not missed a Star Trek yet.
Have you seen the new trailer for 'Riddick - Rule The Dark'? The CGI looks outstanding. -
@transporterfan - nope didn't see the trailer. Not really a vin disel fan.
Though I did read it is supposed to be more like the first movie pitch dark which I have not seen either.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Our local newspaper review didn't seem to like it. 2 stars out of 5. Too much repeating of the old trek stories and not enough original ideas. Did you see it in 3D? Review didn't like that either.

Nope stuck with 2d. I didn't want to be distracted.
I don't trust scifi reviews in the papers. At least here in se michigan they generally slam any and all scifi. So I don't even bother with it.
If you like the 2009 one I'd say go see it. To hell with the reviews.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I haven't seen it yet, but plan to. Just not that excited about it. I've been blasted so hard with advertizing and tie-ins it makes me think it's not very good if they have to sell it so hard. But I'd be happy to be pleasantly surprised.

Don't know if you're a bond fan gadgetguy but remember they pelted us with skyfall pretty hard last year too. I liked it but I don't think it was the best movie ever or the best bond ever - probably the best Craig bond I would say. - just saying it was critically well received so even mass marketing can sometimes come with good movies.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever watched a Bond film all the way through. Never in the theater. But it's been my experience that the harder a movie is advertised, the worse it is. But maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age.
