  1. Hey, guys,

I wonder if you can help me out here, I need a new graphics card for my old backup computer.
I have an Asus p5k se (win xp, 4 gb ram) and I'd like to purchase a nvidia geforce g210 1gb ddr3 but I'd like to know first if if they're compatible.

And if not, can you recommend me one (not too expensive, guys ) that will get along fine with my old machine?

    Domo Arigato.

  2. It should work fine. That's a very low end card though. How much are you looking to spend? What do you plan to do with it? Video encoding with CUDA? Games? Just general desktop use?

  3. I have 25-30 euros I can spend.
My previous card fried and the guy at the store only had a geforce gt 610 to replace it with, problem is that card is just... terrible.
I don't use that computer a lot, just to print and scan stuff (my windows 7 machine can't detect my old HP officejet j4580 printer) and occasionaly paint stuff in my trusty old Photoshop 5.5 (yes, I still use it, don't laugh).

But folks that come by occasionally want to play a game (Left 4 dead, Portal 2, Call of Duty) and the machine dies.
Even opening google earth can be excruciatingly slow.

  4. In that price range the g210 is your best bet. Try to get one with a 64 bit memory interface. That will cost more though. I know you can't use NewEgg but for example:

Make sure it has the right connector for you monitor.

  5. Now you've got me puzzled.
My old computer is a 32 bit machine, won't this 64 bit card raise an issue when I try to install it?

  6. No, it's the the width of the interface between the graphics chips and the graphics memory. It's not related to your 32/64 bit CPU or Windows 64/32 bit.

a gt610 is about twice as fast as a 210.

  8. That's still a bit slow for Call of Duty.

What if I raised the budget to 40-50?

  11. Thanks for the links, mate.

IIRC, I used to have an ATI Radeon 8600 before it fried and was replaced with a geforce gt 610.

So, that ATI card is the baseline I'd like to measure its successor against.
Anything as good or slightly better under 50 euros is an instant sell for me.

  12. The Geforce GT 630 is in your price range and performs much better than the 210.

  13. Cool, thanks, Jagabo, I'll go with it, then.

I gave the wrong code for my previous Ati card, sorry.
It was an ati radeon HD 4770, don't even know where the 8600 code came from .

  14. The Radeon HD 4770 is faster than the Geforce GT 630.

  15. Well, that puts a dent on things...

Can you recommend me a card that could match or surpass the HD 4770 at that price range?

  16. Look through the charts posted by aedipuss. Those will give you a rough idea of what to expect. But keep in mind that a single benchmark may not reflect real world performance for the things you do. So after identifying cards which fit your budget search through other benchmark sites for benchmarks of the games you will be playing.
