I've downloaded an episode of an Australian TV show in mp4 format (all I could find). It plays perfectly well in Media Player Classic using an ffdshow filter. The problem I've got is that no matter what I do, I cannot get this file to open in any converter software I use on my computer including TMPGEnc, AviSynth, VDub or AutoGK. I usually have no problem doing this with mp4 files, so I'm at my wit's end here trying to find out what's wrong. It plays just fine, so why can't any other program open it?
The ffdshow filter that successfully handles it in MPC is under Video Decoder Configuration: H.264/AVC (enabled). Why doesn't the same filter when enabled in VFW Configuration handle it when I go to open it in TMPGEnc for instance? I'm using the latest ffdshow pack rev 4499.
Media Info says it's nothing special. Just AVC+AAC inside. Can anyone please give me any tips where to start looking for an answer?

I would try remux it with for example mymp4boxgui, open it and make a new mp4 and see if it works.
Or just try convert with a ffmpeg based converter like winff, xmedia recode, etc. -
Thanks for the suggestion. It would appear there is some corrupt data in the mp4 stream. That's the message I get from mymp4boxgui when I go to use it and it fails to demux anything. Are there any mp4-specific stream error fixing programs out there? I have no other sources for the file I've downloaded.

Thanks for that. avidemux could recreate a new mp4 file for me but it lost all the video. Just blank screen. There appears to be some conflict in the file about the resolution. It says the video is 640x360 but the H264 codec say it's 640x368 instead. I've noticed that avidemux does try to correct this, but it obviously mucks up the video in doing so.
Anyway, it's not that important. I'm giving up. The file is corrupt even though it plays, but it's too hard to try and fix.
