    I have been trying to author a short video clip where I am using AVIdemux to insert a small picture (Jpeg) in the corner of the video as it plays. The question I want to ask you learned chaps is, can the same thing be done with a video file. ie have a small clip playing in the corner of the main clip. picture in picture etc......

    Yes, easily in most decent NLEs. Called PIP or "picture in picture" (the picture can be still or video, it shouldn't matter). Really simple when the insert doesn't need to move or change it's shape.

    Of course, you would do this during the editing process, not the authoring process (although BD does support this, but that is complicated). BTW, AVIDemux does NOT fall under the category of "decent NLE" in this regard. I'm talking Vegas Movie Studio or similar, for consumers...

    If you're familiar with Avisynth, you can also quite easily incorporate doing this into your workflow - use one of the XYZResize() filters for the "small" video, followed by Overlay().
