I currently use PavTube but the results are spotty. I've got a couple of discs that I want to back up before loaning my originals to a friend. I don't want to simply convert to MP4 or something. I want a full copy of the disc.

One of the discs works just fine. The other gives me a red screen with yellow text that says that I may have to upgrade the firmware on my player. That's not the case as the firmware is up to date. My assumption is that it's a problem with the rip.

Has anyone else had good luck with another piece of software?

    Thanks for any help.

DISCLAIMER: I am not trying to copy discs that I don't own. I just want to hold on to copies of discs that I purchased in case something happens to the originals.

    Try dvdfab decrypter.

edit: Or it could also be the cinavia protection, see http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=7102

Doesn't Cinavia protection just cut either the audio or the video (or both) and throw up an error message that the video's tripped the Cinavia protection, or something like that?

But, yeah, try the OS X version of DVDFab Decrypter instead.
