so i have this AVI in which it is 23.976 fps. i downloaded several different subtitles for it, and none of them are synched properly. i tried delaying the subs with aegisub but it eventually gets more delayed. so i try subtitles modifier which lets me change the fps, and i tried 23.976 fps but there's no change. it's very weird.

You got it so it starts off in synch? And then it gets more and more out of synch as the movie goes along? How far off is it by the end? And how long is the movie at that point? The video doesn't have different scenes from the video for the subs? The subs don't go way off at a certain point? You'll have to check carefully maybe every 5 minutes as the movie goes along.

Synching subtitles is such an absolute nightmare that you may eventually give up. Most of the time I've tried, changing the frame rate has not helped. One of the problems you can have is that different versions of the same film may be different edits of the film or it may be the exact same edit, but the studio intro is different between parts of the world. Even a different of a few seconds can end up being incredibly difficult to deal with. In one case a few months ago, I actually found it quicker to just pad the beginning of the video with some blank space of between 2 and 3 seconds in length and after a few tries I got the subs in sync. It was much faster than trying to figure out the exact amount of time to remove from the subs to get them in sync. I had a version of the film and subtitles from different parts of the world and even though the frame rate was the same, the intro was clearly different by a few seconds and it made the subtitles very out of sync.

This is actually a show called Dark Angel. There are two seasons, all the videos and subs are great, except for two episodes. They don't seem any different from the other episodes. I used subtitles that came in zips. Only the two episodes weren't properly synched, so i tried tweaking and different subs.
Ah I found a proper sub for it, and tweaked the delay. It turns out that the stuff before the intro wasn't shown in certain subtitles, so it made me think the subs were way off. they were more synched after the intro showed, so i tweaked it by 1.5 seconds and it was perfect.Last edited by Kracov; 4th Oct 2012 at 11:16.
