  1. Hi...I am sorry if this question has already been asked, but I have been searching and couldn't find an answer.

I am trying to convert my TrueHD and DTS streams to AC3 5.1. I use Staxrip to do that. Works fine. But what I would like to do is demux the TrueHD or DTS stream, convert it to AC3, and remux the AC3 stream back into the .mkv container so that I have 2 audio streams to choose from.

Earlier this year, I had used a program that did exactly that. It was similar to Staxrip but allowed me to retain both audio streams and did batch files so I can let my computer convert throughout the day/night. My computer died and I lost the program (and forgot the name of it).

Does anyone know which program I am referring to that does this?

Maybe popcorn mkv audio converter? It can convert to ac3 but I'm not sure if you can keep the other track.

  3. I know it wasn't popcorn. It was very similar to AEAC GUI. It was really nice being able to have 2 streams to choose from for compatibility reasons. My old brain just can't remember what it was.

  4. Hybrid can do the mentioned, but it's not as simple as StaxRip since it can do a lot of other stuff too,...
(no clue if it's similiar to 'AEAC GUI' since I don't know AEAC GUI )

Here's how the handling should basically go with Hybrid:
    1. start Hybrid
    2. set Main->Video Handling to passthrough
    3. load Source file
    4. set Main->Audio handling to custom
    5. change to the Audio-tab (make sure 'Reencode Audio stream' is disabled)
    6. press '+' to add the audio stream as is
    7. enable 'Reencode Audio stream'
    8. select Audio format: ac3 and configure the rest of the stuff like you prefer
    9. press '+' to add the audio stream for reencoding
    10. switch to the Main-Tab
    11. set your Output (Main->Output File) to something with mkv extension
    12. press "Add To Queue"
    13. start from 3. with the next source
    14. press "Start Queue" to start the processing
(if your input is vfr also enable: Config->Automation->Always extract timecodes ..., if your input has stretched streams enabled Config->Automation->Matroska settings->Scan for stretched streams)
