Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can help me.
I am fairly new to this video convertion.
I have a new Samsung Smart TV connected to a Zyxel NAS drive which is on my home network.
I have put all my dvds on the NAS drive using handbrake which has worked very well, i can also play them wirelessly on our xbox.
My friend gave me some films on a memory stick, some of which are from blue ray's.
When i put them on my NAS drive my tv will play them but not the xbox, even if i put them though handbrake??
Any ideas would be very welcome.
Many Thanks

What format are these files?
If the are MKV then you need to recode them to another format the xbox likes. . . Can you get MediaInfo installed and then click on one of the files and select MediaInfo?
Then post the details of the file it will give you, into here.FaeGiN -
Thanks but can you go into that screen in your screenshot and select View/ Text, then maximise the window so all the info is visible, then post that?
Also is it n xbox 360 you are talking of?FaeGiN -
OK fair enough, last time I try help someone until I'm sure they can be bothered...LOL

Actually given that info you posted you should be able to remux that video into an mp4 file and the xbox SHOULD be able to play it. However it has CABAC enabled so I don't know if it likes CABAC. You have 5 reference frames which should be ok I believe. I don't know what the upper limit is for reference frames on the xbox360 is but i know it doesn't like a lot.
It is a base 4 profile so the xbox 360 should handle it remuxed into mp4 but there might be some more "under the hood" details on the file it might not like. But its worth remuxing to mp4 to find out.
Use winff and the passthru preset to mp4 to do this. It won't reencode the video just repackage it into a mp4 file that the xbox should be able to read (underline SHOULD).
Good luck and report back.
Edit - oh and lots of other users here will recommend abandoning the xbox 360 as a media player and instead invest in a wdtv media player or similar device. THey are much more adept at file playback than the xbox 360, can read from ntfs drives and read mkv files without a fight. The live models have network abiltiy but I'm not sure which models are wifi and which are dlna compatible if any.
But as mentioned you should use a wifi n connection for any wireless video for the best results, especially with high def. But also a wired connection would be the best option to avoid any interference and any buffering issues.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
XBox 360 only technically supports 3 reference frames. I encode my MP4's with 3, but mediainfo always tells me there's 4 ... not sure why, but there you go. 360 may not be able to copy with 5, but couldn't say for sure as I haven't personally tested it.
XBox 360 will also only handle 2-channel (stereo) AAC audio, and your video has 6-channel, so this definitely won't play natively. You would need to re-encode the audio to 2-channel. -
