Apologies if this is 'another one of those questions'..but Im clueless regarding a solution..
I am trying to copy a family DvD.. it was originally done professionally by a company who transfered Cine films etc onto DvD..I can play the disc fine on the computer and on our DvD player..but when it comes to copying it or trying to opening it in premium elements for editing nothing happens..I have explored the disc and all I have is two files labeled TS and RM..
Two questions..how do I over come this and will I be able to make a few small edits in premier?..
Many thanks,...

ts and rm aren't dvd files and wouldn't play on a standalone. there has to be a folder called video_ts and in there you will find the vobs, ifos, and bups.

Post a screenshot of the disc and all the folders on it and what's inside the folders. If you don't see a VIDEO_TS folder then you don't have a DVD. We need to see what you really have to help you further.

Cheers guys..
My mistake...both files are indeed name 'video ts' and 'video rm'...
Screen shot to follow.. -
Those aren't files They are directories (also known as "folders" for some bizarre reason under Windows). Your disc is a standard DVD made by a video recorder. You don't need to post the screen shot.
I don't use Premium Elements - whatever that is. I have no idea if it's even capable of opening your video. You might try using Vob2MPG (freeware) to rip the VOB files from your DVD and produce one large MPG file, which is what you will want to work with anyway. Premium Elements can hopefully handle that OK. -
Vro files? (And their conversion extra efforts).

Thanks for the input guys..
jman...Sorry that should have said 'premier' Elements..(Adobe)
Both directories contain BUP, IFO, USR, VOB files that windows..or at least my version of it (XP) cant read.. -
I TOLD you what to use. If you're just going to ignore what I say, no point in participating any further.
I cannot verify that your conclusion is correct because Windows is setup stupidly so that it makes it darn near impossible to look at the contents of a valid DVD. I have to use Cygwin (a Unix like toolkit that runs under Windows) to do this kind of thing myself. What you are seeing may be "normal" for Windows, unfortunately. I suppose there is always some crazy chance that the company encrypted your DVD, but it makes no sense that they would do this (it costs them money) for a one off project. Use the program I told you to use and come back if you still have problems. -
Yeh you did..and I used it..prior to you posting..so I wasnt 'ignoring' anything..............the reason for post 7 was purely to make people aware of what I had, just trying to give as much info as possible, and the clarify my mistake regarding 'Premier' (premium) elements...I run and contribute to a few forums and I know how frustrating it is when you only get half the information..then the poster says 'oh yeh I meant to tell you that' half way through trying to help them..
And the video played just fine..after I hit on the TS INFO file..so its obviously picked it up, thanks..
Unfortunately when I hit on the 'start extraction' button I got this..

So I assume that the doughnut who made it has encrypted it after all...
Nevermind..thanks for pointing me in the right direction anyway...... -
encryption is not possible for a burned dvdr. try right clicking on the video_ts folder/copy/then paste into a temp directory of your choosing on your hard drive. then use vob2mpg on the folder to convert to a single mpeg-2 file.

Thanks aedipuss...
Even a professionally done burned DvD?..this was made by a company who convert old Cine camera films and put them onto disc..
But Ill give that a shot..when you say 'temp directory' do you mean another folder? (the windows yellow types)
Thanks.. -
I am GREATLY troubled by there being a *.mpg file on the DVD. D is your DVD drive, correct? .MPG is NOT valid for DVD, although I guess you could include it outside of the VIDEO_TS folder and it would be OK. You have no choice. You absolutely have to figure out a way to post here a JPG of EVERYTHING on the disc, including inside EVERY folder if you want to get help. We have to figure out what you REALLY have so we get you going in the right direction.
It is theoretically possible, although it would make absolutely no sense at all to do so, that your DVD could be encrypted if it was pressed rather than burned. But "makes absolutely no sense" does not equal "they didn't do it", just that it's HIGHLY unlikely given the time and costs to do so. It's also unlikely but possible that this company is one of those ******* video companies that thinks they "own" YOUR video just because they did the work, so they used some special copy protection stuff on it that is not part of the DVD spec to prevent you from copying it. I have heard of this being done although it is not common. Again, you have got to figure out a way to post the contents of EVERY folder on that disc so we can help you. -

For some reason this forum wont let me post screen shots...they are loading to the message body on the reply..but just wont go...
Do you want them on a word doc..assuming I can post one of those on here..obviously I can load and sent the whole TS folder as its 2gb...as I mentioned before these two directories are all I casn pull off the using when 'exploring' it..
I have explored the disc and the files that I mentioned in a previous post are the only ones visible to meLast edited by Old Spice; 18th Aug 2012 at 09:07.
