  1. Is it possible to compress VOB files, using a program like Winzip?
Or will it corrupt the files?

  2. It won't curropt the VOB files, but they won't get compressed either, i've hardly seen ZIP (or RAR or ARj) having any effect on a VOB/MPG files before

  3. I could be wrong but i believe mpeg files are already compressed.
I think mpeg encoding is technically the act of compressing video
spatially (duplication in 1 frame) and temporally (for mpeg2,
    duplication across multiple frames).

So... compressing a compressed file doesn't do much but waste time.

I do use winace to "backup" vobs (for when I buy a dvd burner),
but I only use the archive option (i believe winzip has the same
options). Gotta do something with all of low quality cdr i've got.

On a side note: ya could get a Fluorescent Multi-layer Disc writer
and store up to 100gig on 1 disk. sorry but i just had to sneek
    that in
I mean it in the nicest way.

  4. FMD has not yet come out to the world, and by the way, the normal standard will have 140gb on one media, but a current CD/DVD will not be capable of reading it, but future drives will be capable

winzip won't compress something that's already been compressed.

AVI files can be compressed and so can bitmaps

But the only reason to zip up jpeg's or mpeg's is for distrabution.

  6. ImaWeTodd, when you "backup" the vobs does it reduce the size of them, and if it does, could u tell me how to use the archive option in winace? Does the archive change the quality of the vobs?
    Thanks

  7. Weed3k,

Sorry, no xtra compression but it takes foreverrrrr if you try

Under the options tab choose store for compression. Then in the volumes dropdown either pick a size or type one in. I go with 700mb for
    my crappy compusa 80min cdr.

Sefy, sorry about the FMD comment but I hadn't heard about it
for a while Thanks for catching it...
