  2. ISO *are* usually compressed to begin with. However, you could try WinRar or WinZip but I doubt it will be much smaller

An ISO file is a CD or DVD image. By it's nature it will fit the appropriate sized media. If you have an ISO from a full 800 MB CD then you cannot burn it to a 700 MB CD. You also cannot compress an ISO to make it fit, unless you want to simply burn the ISO as data and transport it as an ISO file. This will mean that you cannot access the content by simply reading the CD. You would have to decompress the ISO to a HDD, then mount it as a virtual drive or burn it to an appropriately size disc.

If you want to compress the content of the ISO, then you first have to know what that content is, and be able to access it. You can use something like daemontools or another virtual drive system (there are several around) to open the ISO, after wich you may, depending on the content, be able to compress it down to fit a smaller disc.

What type of ISO do you have, and what do you want to do with it ?

the iso file i have is a program! i wanted to make it smaller so that i could fit into a dvd+r.
thanks for the answers but i was playing around with POWERISO and i was able to shrink one of the files about half of its original size! then i tried another one but didnt shrink much.

i compressed from iso format to daa which like i see is smaller than iso!
