  1. I'm facing a problem with WinAVI Video Convertor 11.5. I need to convert my files to Divx format specificly to make it work in my car, in addition to embeding subtitles. My car's system reads Divx only, nothing else, and it looks like WinAVI doesn't support Divx as one of the AVI output formats.

I tried reinstalling K-lite codec pack (full) hoping that there might be some codecs that will be installed in order to add more output options to the software, but had no effect on the given list of formats!

I purchased this software only for that reason, and i'm still hoping that was not some 40$ waste of money.

    Could anyone help me here?

Two posts and you've broken the forum rules already.

  3. Select Xvid as the codec. Set the fourcc to DX50. Rename the .AVI file .DIVX if necessary.

I though my posts didn't go through both times! the webpage stopped responding

I don't wanna use Divx Converter. It sucks. It takes very long time (twice the movie duration at least) and in my first attempt it stopped working after two hours of rendering at 80%..

Regarding fourcc, i don't know where to find it! I select Xvid Encoder in video settings in addition to some more general video settings and that's about it, there is no such option.

Thanks for your responses, I still need a solution though.

AutoGK is free. Maybe it will work for you.

I'm not saying that Divx Converter is great, but generally speaking if it locks then there is a bad spot in your source video it can't handle. It should not lock on truly clean sources.

It's in Xvid's Other Options dialog.

If your software doesn't give you access to that dialog you can set it via Start -> All Programs -> Xvid -> Configure Encoder. The codec remembers that setting in the registry so you don't have to set it each time the codec is used.

  7. Following your comment Jagabo, I had no Xvid configuration software installed on my PC, so i went and installed it. I found FourCC option within the configuration tool but it was shaded and cannot be changed. But even after installing this codec, nothing changed in the WinAVI software at all. It seems like it has its own encoding plugins and doesn't rely on any external sources.

Anyway, along with Xvid configuration software that I installed, there was a utility called Nic's FourCC Changer, and since i got the idea from you that FourCC was my problem, so I easily opened it and chose my exported Xvid file and changed the FourCC to Divx, and that's it!! It worked perfectly.

    Thank you guys.

  8. I was going to mention FourCC Code Changer as the next alternative!
