I have a Philips DVP3560 multi region DVD player and have been able to set the player to MULTI without a problem. However when I try to view a UK DVD on a Samsung analog TV or a Samsung Didital flatscreen TV I am not able to view the show.

The analog TV shows a picture but very distorted and in B&W, and the more modern digital TV shows an error message.

Reading many posts it seems that once you have been able to set your DVD player to MULTI the picture from a UK DVD simply shows up on a USA TV set with no problem. Am I doing something wrong? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

  2. MULTI? Is that an option in the setup menu of the 3560? If so, it's probably putting out a PAL signal, not NTSC. What you want to do is go back to NTSC. Then change the region code to 0.

Your TVs are NTSC only, not multi-system. If you have set the TV system to MULTI, the player does not convert from PAL to NTSC for output to the TV. Choose NTSC as the TV system and see if that helps.

If player is the multi-region version sold by some specialty retailers, you should not need to change its region setting. If your DVD player is the standard US version, it is set to region 1, and you need to set it to "all region". See https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/philips-dvp3560/10922

    [Edit]I see jagabo beat me.

Just to be sure this is clear to the OP: The symptoms you are seeing is what typically happens when sending a PAL signal to an NTSC TV. The TV can't sync to the PAL signal so you get a rolling picture. And that rolling picture looks black and white because the NTSC TV doesn't understand the color encoding of PAL video.
