Not sure if I should post this in here or the newbie section. Anyways, I've downloaded my movie, and encoded it with TMPGEnc (using NTSC if that matters. I'm in Canada). Now when do I add the .bin file? or does Nero add it automatically? I really don't know anything about this and can't find it on this site. I've burned a vcd and it worked fine. Can't seem to do a svcd though. Please help. Thank you.

Your question is rather puzzling...
You downloaded and encoded in TMPGEnc a movie. Presumably you have now a mpeg2 feed with SVCD specifications. In Nero you can burn this directly - or you can convert this mpeg into a bin file and then burn it in Nero. If you are not adding entry points, chapters, fancy menus - burn it directly with Nero. -
I tried burning it directly with nero, but it didn't seem to work. It won't play on my computer dvd anyways. When I open the contents of the burned cd, under the MPEGAV folder, the file is .mpg, not .dat. Is this the problem? If so, shouldn't nero take care of this automatically? If not, I have no idea what the problem is.
thanks for your help. -
Are you sure your standalone DVD player plays SVCD's? Have you tried playing the finished mpeg file that TMPGEnc created on your hard drive in your software DVD player (or other mpeg2 player) ?
SVCD mode created files have a slightly different structure than your normal VCD's. And Nero produces a mpg file not a dat in this mode which is correct.

Yah, I tried playing the finished mpeg file that TMPGEnc created on my WinDVD. It worked fine.
I've only tried playing the svcd on my computer's dvd drive. It didn't work there. I haven't tried it on a stand alone dvd player yet, cause I don't have one. I'll try the disc on a friends dvd player tonight hopefully. Is it possible that the svcd wouldn't work on my computer's dvd drive (matshita dvd-rom sr-8584a) but on a stand alone dvd player?
thanks again for your help. In the meantime, I might sacrifice another disc and try to convert it to .bin first, then burn that. see if that works. -
There often are problems playing a SVCD (CD-R) directly from your PC - Drive. Sometimes it helps if you go into file mode of your software (mpeg2) PC Player and then go directly to the subdirectory where the mpg file is. That should work. If you are sure that your friends standalone DVD Player plays SVCD's but not yours, it could also be the media you burnt on. Try using one of your friends CD-R(W)'s for certainty.
