Dear Gurus:
Please forgive me if this a subject already asked an answered. I was wondering if a boot CD would work for me. I really like Windows 7 and don't want to remove it from my system any time soon. But I like playing Civilization II, but it won't run on my system, even in so called compatibility modes. I was wondering if a boot cd would make make my computer run in Windows 98, so it will run. I've asked my nephew who is an IT whiz, but he keeps going off on tangents on ideas like Virtual PC (Virtual Box, etc.). Any insight for me ladies and gentlemen?

No, a Win98 boot CD will not allow you to install and run games. Do as your nephew suggests: set up a virtual machine. Once you start using VMs you'll find all kinds of uses for them.
Maybe this:
Win 7 and XP (64 bit) civ 2 MGE and TOT issues (Fix inside!!)
Just out of curiosity I found a copy of Civ II Multiplayer Edition Gold. It installed and appeared to run fine from 64 bit Win 7.Last edited by jagabo; 24th Mar 2012 at 20:51.

When i needed to run things that would not run on W7 64, I would either use XP Virtual or I have set up a dual boot system which allows you to boot into whatever 2 different OS's you have installed.
In order to have W98 run on your system you would need it to be installed.
I was going to say maybe check out GOG.com as they have had TONS of old games that would not run on modern OS's, but they have redone them so they would.
But i checked and they don't seem to have Civilization II.
Evidently jagabo has found one that does work, I never looked any farther than GOG.
