need help creating a DVD

i have a lot of clips in mpeg2 format, and i'd like to create dvd's where these clips would be sorted by years.
so, basically, i want to have this kind of menu:





and when you click on year1 or year2, it takes you to a new screen that contains clips from that year, but only text, without preview.




also, i want to preserve quality as much as possible.


which software would you recommend me?

Any decent authoring program will do this. For free, DVDAuthorGUI, GUI4DVDAuthor, or DVDStyler. For commercial, maybe DVDLab (Pro) or TMPGEnc Authoring Works.

As for preserving quality, assuming your source videos are already DVD compliant, nothing gets reencoded and quality is preserved. If they aren't, make them so before authoring.

i've got dvdlab and it is great, but one thing i can't figure out.
when i play disc on my dvd player, it changes aspect on my tv (it zooms, so i can't see the whole video); i have to manually set tv to just or 16:9 to be able to see all.
what am i doing wrong?

This sounds more like something the TV is doing rather than a mistake in the DVD / player.
