Hai all,
First of all my PC specs are :
AMD Phenom X6 1090T 3.72 GHz (Overclocked)
AMD Radeon 6870 GDDR5 Graphics Card
Ram Memory : 4.00 GB (2x 2GB DUAL)
Harddisk : SSD OCZ SATA III (60GB)
Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit, overall score : 7.4
--------------------------------------------------------
I have been encoding for years now, i am in a group but can't tell you guys wich one...
My question is, i'm using XviD 1.3.2 codec for encoding. At the moment i' m ripping a DVD to 1400MB size.
As you guys can see my PC is very good for encoding, still the CPU usage is only 25%. I am encoding with Megui as stated above...
I also try'd changing the thread option to 6 because my CPU has 6 cores, that didnt help either...
DVD Source is DVD9 (6.60GB), with only 25% CPU usage first pass takes 40 minutes, encoding at 60 FPS.
Why cant Megui use like 80% of my CPU so it can encode much faster, thats actually why i have a 6 core CPU...
Does anyone know why? Is it the XviD codec that doesnt support 6 cores or am i doing something wrong.
I was also using VirtualDubMod and i get the same results...
I hope someone can inform me what the problem here is, maybe its normal like this![]()

Are you using the right versions of software for you?
I'm on 32bit and my CPU has dual cores and it almost maxes out when encoding.
I think you'd better try these.

Xvid simply isn't very well multithreaded. It doesn't scale a lot past 2 threads. 25 percent CPU usage on a six core CPU sounds about right. Make sure you haven't force Xvid to use fewer threads. Overall encoding speeds will vary depending on the settings used, of course. Other filtering may be slowing you down too.

I try'd the Xvid Codec 64Bit but still same results...
I aldready had the AMD64 Virtualdub, but i can't work with it... I need VirtualDubMod for configuring the XviD Codec and settings. -
As I said, Xvid doesn't use more than 2 cores very efficiently. There's almost no performance difference between the 32 bit and 64 bit versions. If you want to get more performance out of your computer and Xvid run multiple instances of VirtualDub, each converting a different video.
Why do you need VirtualDubMod? The regular VirtualDub gives you access to the same Xvid configuration dialogs. In any case, there's not much performance difference between VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod, 32 bit or 64 bit. -
Ok, i understand now about the Xvid codec.
Why i use Virtualdubmod is because , the regular virtualdub is different.
In Virtualdubmod i can choose SAVE AS, and configure my first pass and second pass, on the regular virtualdub i cant, i can-
only choose SAVE AVI, en no configuration is showed. I can edit it video VIDEO>Compression but still i cant save as first pass and second pass. Maybe i'm doing someting wrong, i always used Virtualdubmod.
