I have a video that has the audio horribly out of synch and I was wondering how to correct it.

    Media info reports:
    Video: English 6 938 Kbps 1920x1040 (16:9) @ 23.976Fps AVC (Main@L4.0) (CABAC/4 Ref Frames)
    Audio: DTS 510Kbps 48KHz, 24 Bits

    In an MKV container.

How do I best go about synching the audio?

  2. Are your computer specs correct? Athlon 3500+ ? If so, it's more likely a CPU/playback problem (not fast enough)

I seem to recall somebody posting something about that processor, something to the extent that we shouldnt whine about playback and I guess thats finally coming around to bite me in my ---.
I have hundreds of videos that I have zero problems with, why is this one difficult? The display size? This is one of very few 1080's I have.

Also on a different subject, I am converting a DVD I own to 264 MKV and it has a DTS soundtrack but in the dropdown audio codec section DTS isnt offerred (every other conversion I've done with DTS there has always been a DTS passthru option) so what do I assign as a codec from the choices of: AAC (faac), MP3 (lame), AC3 Passthru, AC3 (ffmpeg)? I really dont understand why DTS isnt showing.

Yes, dimensions and type of compression. HD video , and h.264 compression both require tremendous more processing power to decode than SD video, and MPEG2 compression (DVD) . At minimum you need a dual core

If you check the file on another computer (maybe a friend's house), you can rule out problems with the file

What software ? Maybe the one you are using doesn't offer copying audio

Or you can demux it and remux it into the mkv container with mkvtoolnix

    I have a 6 core processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1065T Processor (6 CPUs), ~2.9GHz

And thanks you so much for the incredibly fast replies, I really appreciate it.

  7. So you still have sync issues with the x6 playback ??

If so, what software for playback ?

Describe the sync issues: is it progressively worsening, or constantly out of sync (e.g. 1 sec all the way through)

To further complicate things I am viewing the movie through a Boxee Box. The thing is that I havent had any problems with any other vids, the synch has never been a problem.

The synch starts fine then gets worse

  9. I would rule out problems step by step

Does it play ok locally on the X6 ? or is the file damaged/out of sync to begin with? Try different players e.g. MPCHC, VLC, SMPlayer, Potplayer, Splash

If it plays ok locally, then file is probably ok, and you have a Boxee issue

  10. I have found on some media boxes DTS is too much to handle. I usually convert DTS to AC3 and then it seems to work fine.
