I have a bunch of movies ripped to dvd files (video_ts) which I store on computer hard drives and stream to home theatre system via computer/network. In order to free up hard drive space, I have started backing up older files onto blank blu ray discs, like 4 or 5 movies per disc. I used imgburn to make, compile and burn discs. The problem now is that the same dvd files that I could play on any media player before, now get region code errors upon playback of the backed up files on blu ray.
Any help will be appreciated.

No, this is not a blu-ray ripping issue. Moving you.
What exactly are giving you the region code error? Computer software player? Windows? Media Player? -
sorry, yes, windows media player:
Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because the disc prohibits playback in your region of the world. You must obtain a disc that is intended for your geographic region. -
What if you copy a VIDEO_TS folder back to your hard drive. Can you play it from there?
-
How can you only copy the video? If you copied VIDEO_TS folders you would have full DVD structures containing VOB files with both audio and video.
I think you need to go back and explain exactly what you did. Did you just burn a bunch of VIDEO_TS folders to a blu-ray data disc? Did you author a full Blu-ray movie disc? -
Sorry I fell asleep last nite.
At the start, I just wanted to see if i could back up some dvd files to a blu ray to get them off the hard drive. If I ever needed them I could copy them back to the HD or burn to disc. then I thought, why could'nt i just play the files off the blu ray strictly as data through windows media player. So I was trying to burn the dvd files as raw data but it appears that does not leave playable files. Any suggestions? Thanks for moving my post and responding so quickly last nite. -
I took the DVD files from the disc and copied to HD and movie streamed normal. I was also able to burn a disc from the files after copying to HD. It appears the movie I chose first was corrupted. I suppose I have accomplished what I was trying to do initially. To be able to play the files off the back up disc was perhaps asking too much.

The Blu-ray disc/drive is certainly fast enough to play DVD rips straight from the drive. This is the first I've heard of anyone not being able to play VIDEO_TS folders off a Blu-ray data disc. Have you tried another player? VLC, MPCHC, etc. They ignore region codes and they're better players than WMP.

Yes the 3 u listed all give the same region error message. what about right click on BR drive, properties, hardware tab, properties, dvd regions, I changed to region 1 with no luck. It says 4 remaining changes.
