When you cut out the first part of the movie, i.e. you start at the beginning of the movie you can see the progress immediately. When you make a starting poing somewhere, say, in the middle of the movie it will take some time (this "seeking...whatever" message) until the program locates your exact point you want to cut in. Actually it looks as if the program hanged but it works silently. This is done twice, once for video and once for audio so be patient, it can take up to 3-5 minutes until "seeking..." disappears (depends on how long the movie is).

Its always best to use any new versions out, they have improvements and bug fixes.
Seeking problems are usually bad movies, missing key frames. Sometimes re-saving them in Vdub using streaming will cure the problem

The latest versions are improved (I think) Earlier vcd was no problem editing in the earlier versions, but svcd's hang up. The latest version worked fine for me. Even in svdc's. Or try vcd cutter....Its easy to use, joining, splitting mpeg's. Good Luck 8)
