  1. I have a new macbook pro and a component capture device. I got it online for 20 bucks.

The mac isn't recognizing it. I am using free software called Debut I found online. I know it says windows on the description, but I figured the Mac would still be able to recognize it. Is this happening because I need specific drivers for the device? Did I just waste 20$

    Did you waste $20? Probably.

Macs aren't Windows machines, as you just found out. I wouldn't buy ANYTHING for use on a Mac without reading the manufacturer's certification that it works on Mac. Yes, you will need Mac specific drivers for the device. My guess is that the manufacturer didn't bother to make any.

This is one of the very few USB based capture devices that I know of that works on a Mac:

You're not going to like the price of it though. And Hauppauge doesn't support it on Mac but a 3rd party does, which entails more expense as you have to buy their software to get it to work.
