    Hi guys,
I have two films which make in total around 8gb. I'd like to put them on a DVD9, with a simple menu to choose which to play - only the films: neither would have their individual menus or anything - but I have created ifos for each.
Is there a way I can combine them when they're vobs, maybe?
I guess it's a matter of creating a DVD where one movie would be the 'movie' and the other would be a 'making of'
I was hoping to drag and drop both onto DVDshrink, then reauthor - no dice. And convertxtodvd is lossy therefore sucky.
Any ideas or applications you know of?
Would adding the two when they're at video_ts stage work?

I hope my ramble makes sense to someone here!
    Thanks in advance.

DVDRemake Pro can join and even keep menus. Not free though , see for example http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/ht_merge1.php

Or maybe use VOB2mpg and use a dvd authoring app like dvdstyler or guifordvdauthor and import the mpg.

    8 GB + 8 GB = 16 GB
    16 GB > capacity of DVD-9 (about 8.5 GB)

No, you cannot do what you propose in a lossless way. You'll have to re-encode both movies and give up some quality to do this.

"Total around 8gb"...sounds to me like 4GB+4GB. It should almost fit on a 7.95GiB DVDRDL.

Thanks Baldrick, dvdstyler looks to be perfect - much appreciated.
Yes I have one 4.9GB film and one 3.2gb - I'm pretty sure they'll fit on an 8.5gb DVD9 without having to shrink either - no biggie if I have to slightly shrink the larger one.

Anyway I really appreciate your help Baldrick - great stuff.

Sigh. Sorry. You did indeed say 8 GB in total which I read as "two 8 GB films". My bad. You're quite right that you need not shrink either.

This is written assuming both sources are on you hard drive and are in different folders. Because that is how I did this.

Open DVD Shrink 3.2 - Or use something else and forget this post. I recommend something else if you need much compression.

    Click on Re-author

Grab folder one in Windows Explorer and drop it on the DVD browser pane in DVD Shrink

WATCH DVD Shrink change to change to Full Disk - get frustrated because you haven't done this before.

Click on Ree-author again because doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of stupidity according to Einstein.

SEE just much crap Einstein was full of in regards to computers because you will then see the first video in the DVD Browser pane just like you wanted.

Grab main title and drag to DVD structure pane where it becomes title one.

NOW in a fit of futility and hate for stupid quotes from geniuses go to Windows Explorer and GRAB THE NEXT VIDEO then drop it on the DVD Browser pane in DVD Shrink

SEE the magic of DVD Shrink as it again switches to Full Disc Mode with only the new video showing.

THEN in a fit of sheerest optimism and a disdain for Einstein's popular quote HIT the Re-Author button again.

NOTE that it the new video is in the DVD Browser pane
SEE the stunning DVD structure pane RETAINS the previous title (you can see it still has the same time)
DRAG the main title of the second video to the DVD Structure pane like you did with the first one.

AMAZE your friends as you dance on the grave of Einsteins quote as BOTH VIDEOS are now on the DVD Structure pane.

CLICK on the Compression Settings Tab
Note that the auto compression is set a lot low - this is because you didn't change your preferences from DVD 5 to DVD 9 so click on EDIT in menu near the top - choose Preferences and then the Preferences tab on the pop up. Change Target DVD size from DVD 5 to DVD 9

SEE the compression setting change to something more tolerable.

IF not tolerable enough THEN find a check box that has a vile language and uncheck. Do that for both titles.

IN my experiment - yes I am typing this as do it for the first time step by step and have NOT ever done this before and am still not finished, I find the compression setting is 94.2 which is acceptable BUT maybe I can do MORE.

    GO to DVD Structure pane

CLICK on weird icon that produces tool tip of Set Start/End Frames

SEE pop up box for setting Start End - do what you feel you can get away with and not hate yourself for Evil of Editing Masterpiece Video. By said butchering I achieved a compression ration of 97.5. If acceptable go to next step.

IF too evil then revert cuts and return to 94.2 compression as I did as it is truly EVIL to cut deathless videos.

When through messing around - noting that I can't see a way to change titles, thus they remain Title 1 and Title 1 (2 ) which just plain sucks.

    CLICK on Backup

Choose target. I chose a folder named Test. I do not recommend choosing to burn at this time because that would be silly. Burn it after you test the folder. How to burn at that point is up to the Victims of this. I would use ImgBurn. There may be layer break issues.

CLICK ok when you feel you have dithered around enough.

WAIT about 20 minutes or whatever depending on compression setting. Less compression less wait and better results.

TICK TOCK - yes I am really waiting.

    Times up at 25 minutes.

Well I have a disk structure with no menu and two movies. I can either watch-skip through the first to get the second or use a navigation menu and switch titles. Both look OK.

    Going to ImgBurn

Opened and chose 'Write files/folders to disk'
Dragged Test Folder to source pane ImgBurn suggested different settings and I accepted them.
Since I didn't actually want to burn a disc and I don't think I have a dual layer anyway I set up an image. The layer break was set to VTS02 Chapter 4 Cell 4 which I suppose would be OK but not ideal however since the DVD would jammed full that is little leeway. I don't see a way to change it. That may be due to the very tight fit. It is now creating an ISO file.

The ISO works. Burning is left to the student/victim of this post.
