I usually watch movies (DivX/avi files) from a USB stick on my Pioneer DV400V DVD player. For the last few months, most of my movies quit playing about 75% of the way through. They just stop and the player moves on to the next file on the drive. Suspecting it might be my USB stick, I tried one of the offending files burned to a DVD, stopped playing the very same place. Any ideas? It's getting old and frustrating not seeing any endings. TIA.

How large (file size) are the videos? Some players have reportedly behaved like that with videos over a certain size. You may also want to run one of the videos that causes the problem through a utility like MediaInfo, in tree mode, and copy and paste the information Mediainfo provides here. Someone may notice details about the video that your player may not like.

If you load the video into VirtualDub, and simply Direct Stream Copy the video and audio to a new AVI, does the problem persist?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

I have a feeling that the files that are stopping are around 1.4 Gb, but I couldn't confirm this. As for the other suggestions, I'm not much of a techie, but I will try those other steps you suggested. Thanks.

What the customer believes to be true but never is - My DVD/BluRay player will perfectly play EVERYTHING I throw at it and I never need to buy another playback device.

The sad reality - All DVD and BluRay players are bitchy about what they play. Some more, some less.

Post the media info as you were asked and we'll take a look. However you might consider just buying a media player like a Western Digital or similar model. They're much more tolerant about things that give DVD and BluRay players problems plus they can play more formats any way. Just being able to get on with your life is a good thing. I bought a first generation Western Digital player a few years ago when it first came out and it's one of the best purchases I ever made in my life.

That, I can certainly understand, but this unit is a couple of years old and this phenomenon only started happening about six months ago. Had it always done this, I could understand it's a particularity of this unit. I will try to post the file info as requested. Thanks.
