It happens with either .mp4 or .mt2s high-definition videos on both Media Player Classic or VLC. These are 1080 30p or 60i files saved an the C:\ drive (an HDD) that just stop playing after a few minutes. Is this a hardware problem? How do I troubleshoot this? It doesn't happen every time, but prolly like 1/3 of the time, even with the computer resolution only set to 1084 x 768.

The computer doesn't crash, just the video playback. It gets to a point and the frame just stops and shows a still image but the audio keeps going. If I then exit out of the Media Player Classic or VLC player and wait about 3-4 minutes, it lets me start the video over again.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

These are .mts files from a camcorder that I edited in Sony Vegas Platinum 10 and saved as either .mp4 or .mt2s files.

It's a Canon HF21. This only started happening about 1 - 2 months ago. Before then everything was fine.

kinda long to wait to try and figure out. do you recall what you changed just before the problem? software updates? codec packs? video driver? does the video card pass a stress test?
