I've read all I can find on this site regarding frameserving from VDub to TMPEGEnc. I got to the point where I select the video.vdr.avi file in TMPEGEnc and then it would just sit there, cursor looking busy. After a while I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and it said TMPEGEnc (Not Responding). Is this normal?![]()
Also, now when I select the .vdr file I'm getting the can not open or unsupported error message. I have already made the adjustments in environmental settings, changed them all around and can't get it to work again.![]()
I'm running a Gateway Pentium III 1000 with Windows ME, if this makes any difference.
TIA for your help...

I don't know about your second problem, but the hanging thing happens to me everytime I put up a new version of TMPGEnc. Then I have to go and fix the environment settings, and it all works fine.
Come to think of it, I did have something like your first problem a couple of times, but it was due to my stupidity! I often use the same file names, and for various reasons sometimes end up in the wrong directory, so I was pointing to a file which was NOT a current VD frameserve (hence the error).
Regarding the environment settings, the 'how to' says to lower the priority of the Directshow reader, but I have found (and I'm sure it's what used to be in the instructions) that it is the AVI2 reader that should be raised. Works for me anyway.
Good luck -
If you are running winME, you do not need the proxy mode, you do not need to rename it to avi. Just make sure, you installed the handler and open the *.vdr in TMPG.

Thanks for all your help, but so far, still having the same problem. I'm running TMPEG V 2.52.34.129 core version 1.83.129.
Virtual dub 1.4c
I've turned proxyoff. Tried without .avi extension.
I have AVI2 reader top priority, followed by Directshow reader.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks again,

Hollywood_Mike:
Go into the directory that you installed VirtualDub into. There should be a file in there called AUXSETUP.EXE.
Run it.
In the auxillary setup menu, choose Install handler.
That's it.
When you go to start your frameserver, use a .VDR extension for your file - mummy.vdr, for example.
In TMPGEnc, load the mummy.vdr file and everything should be ok. -
Well, I think this weekend, I'll re-install both Virtual Dub and TMPEG. I don't know what the problem is, but I've tried all suggestions, and frameserving just seems to hang my computer.

I'm not sure what it was I did to make it work, but I finally got frameserving working.
I re-installed both VDub & TMPG, but it still would hang my computer. Then I tried a frameserve from one copy of VDub to another, and that worked. So I tried TMPG again, and it's been working since.
Thanks everone for all the help, and hopefully this can help someone else having problems.
