  1. Hi folks!
Newbie here and thought I might get some help from you lads.

My issue is this, whenever I render my videos I sometimes get a strange error in the finished rendering. This is an example of the problem. My source is a 1920x1200 fraps recording and I render using sony vegas 10. A mate suggested it might be a codec issue with sony vegas as the problem doesn't occur in the raw fraps footage.

It has had me baffled for a few days now and I've been unable to find a solution, most likely it's just something silly that I've overlooked being a novice and all.

    New project settings:
    project
    Render settings:
    Video
    Audio
    Project

Any input or sugggestions would be appriciated!

I haven't attempted Fraps to youtube but all that looks compression related.

How did it look before you sent it to youtube and what did you send?

In my limited experience you increase bit rate to their file size limits before they recode down.

Also you can help their decoders with some low pass filtering off that detail.

youtube doesn't like 1920x1200 much. set your game to 1920x1080 and it will come out better or render to 1920x1080 with black bars on the sides. also uncheck allow source to adjust framerate. make it a constant 30.00 fps.

Since you have Vegas, you could heavily soften the camera swings (all of it).

During the low motion frames, the sky and water are generating severe artifacts. Soften all or find a way to selectively soften bluish source. Similar to a chroma key but triggers luma softening based on blue content.

  5. In addition to the low quality issues mentioned above, you have "ghosting" or frame blending

Most common cause in vegas is when you have a discrepancy in the frame rates between source files, and project settings, and/or render settings, and you have "smart resample" enabled. (But it's also possible YT botched it as well...)

What were the fraps settings? especially FPS ? if you don't know use mediainfo on a source file (view=>text) copy & paste back here

  6. I doubt the issue is with YT, the problem is most likely local as the problem occurs prior to upload.

I'm aware that YT doesn't like 1920x1200, it just happens to be the native resolution for my 24" and I'm not that picky(thus far). Sadly, resolution change doesn't effect the problem at hand. Tried a render with "allow source to adjust..." unchecked, it slightly improved the artifacts but it's far from decent. Logic suggests it's Vegas and usr related. ^^

I suspected there was some issue with my settings and used a random .mp4 stock encoder(Sony AVC .mp4(internet1920x1090x30p)) in vegas. The result was a lot better so I've most likely buggered up somewhere, just can't find where.

Fraps was set to 60fps but I doubt I was getting above 50 while recording as my HDD is a piece of crap. Here's some detailed info on the source file.
