    Hi,

I recorded a 2 hours web cam chat through BSR screen recorder. Its an .avi file. There is a 2 minutes section in that video where two people are whispering a little loudly but the audio is still not clear. You can catch a word here and there but cant really understand the entire conversation.

Is there a way I can enhance that whispering within the .avi file to be able to hear the entire 2 minute conversation clearly? I understand there are external softwares/websites that help with this kind of stuff but someone told u have to upload your video first there. Considering its a 1.6 GB video, I dont really know what to do. I am a total non techie guy and would love any easy solutions. If there are no easy way, I am willling to learn with tutorials so please guide on that as well. Thanks so much.

If the audio wasn't captured to begin with then you are pretty much screwed - you cannot enhance what you don't have. Even if something is there, if it is that low, expect the 'enhanced quality' to be marginal at best.

Your best bet will be to demux the audio to a wav file using virtualdub, open the wav in audacity, high-light the area you want to enhance, then apply suitable filters, save the new audio, then replace the original audio using virtualdub.

Which filters - depends on the problem. You may need to use a combination of EQ, amplification and other filters to get something you can understand.

  3. If you only want to make the audio louder just use VirtualDub.

    1) File -> Open Video File
    2) Video -> Direct Stream Copy (don't change the video)
    3) Audio -> Full Processing Mode (change the audio)
    4) Audio -> Volume... (adjust to your liking)
    5) Audio -> Compression (select compression codec and paramters)
    6) File -> Save as AVI

That will leave your original file untouched and create a new file with louder audio.
