I just recently discovered DVDFab thanks to this website and I've used Movie Edit Pro since MEP11, upgrading every odd numbered version (not by design but that's how it worked out) but this is the first time I'm planning on using both.

DVDFab seems to have a lot of options in terms of formats for ripping DVDs. What is the best format to rip DVDs to that will also work in MEP17? I realize that's probably a subjective answer for that question but that's ok; I'm just looking for some direction here. What I'm doing with the DVDs is taking the tv shows I have and assembling DVDs with episodes that fit a specific theme, like holiday shows. So most of what's being ripped is 22-25 minutes each.

I've tried MKV but I'm getting some picture "stutter" which is why I'm asking what's the best format to use that will work with MEP17. I've noticed on the Conversion Settings menu, MKV has 6 drop-down options at the top of that screen so I'm wondering if there's a specific option there I should use. Or should I use something other than MKV to start with? My big concern is avoiding image stuttering.

As for MEP17, the main change I'm doing has been to add Episode Titles and/or Air Dates for the individual episodes and eventually burning the shows to disc but I'm not that far yet.

    Thanks.

Just copy the DVD to your hard drive as it is.

I tried copying it two different times and both times when I played it in MEP17 there was a stutter in the video. Frustrating because the picture was perfect except for the slight stuttering.

Did the copies from DVDFab give you a VIDEO_TS folder?

Yes, it did. And it also gave me an Audio_TS folder as well even though that folder is empty.

An empty AUDIO_TS folder is normal.
This is what a DVD folder should contain:

You have some strange files in there.

I have the stutter issue too. I think 1000's of us do. Its something with dvdfab's remux engine or something that is fouled up. supposedly the dev's are working on it but I haven't seen anything new pop out of beta. I think everyone is on vacation after the latest release that just came out. Or they can't figure it out.

    Anyway.

What is probably happening is that you are trying to convert the file straight from dvd. if you just extract the main movie without changing anything the file should complete. for instance in dvdfab if its a blu-ray go to blu-ray copy and extract the main movie (maybe clone and other options work too i just dont have the patience to try every option) and thats it. once on hard drive you can play with it in your app. atleast thats whats been working for me.
