  1. Hi!
I just bought my first DVD player, Mustek v560, but have major problems. DVD's works fine but when i insert mp3, svcd (both burned and originals), audio-cd etc, all it says on the display is "No Disc Loaded".
My conclusion is that this player is broken (no shit) but I want to be sure before I complain to the company that sold it to me. Am I doing something wrong here? Have I missed someting?

    Please, HEEEEEEELP!

Well, I have just purchased the Mustek 560 (branded as Yukai) and have no problems whatsoever with anything I've tried (DVD, VCD, SVCD, MP3, audio, etc) so I guess there may be something wrong with your player.

Get it checked out if you can...

    :)

  4. Thanx for your replies, boys!
It's so bloody annoying, when you've spend a lot of money and the stuff doesn't work. Probably the company that sold it to me, will send to god damn player all the way back to Germany for reperations, so I will have to wait another fiew months for the joy that a DVD can bring...

  5. I also bought a Mustek v560 (well,it has a cover that says it is an YUKAI v560 but it's exactly the same device)

    DVD: works
    VCD 1.0: works
VCD 2.0: (Photo Album created with WinOnCD5): says the device is not compatible, I cannot enable Play Back Control (PBC) even if there is a special button in the remote.
MP3: works (only reads 8 chars. from file)
SVCD: still doesn't work, just testing.

It's a cheap and nice device but I'm not sure that all of them work the same way. In some forums I read that it works with almost everything (including XVCD and raw MPG files in CD Data folders), but also heard that the newest models bring a new firmware that is not the same it was before (bad luck?)

    joan :(

  6. I bought the Voxson 320 after testing it with CD-RW and the region
    code. Works fine.
    VCD
    SVCD
    MP3
    XVCD at bitrate 6000+
    XSVCD at 7000+.
    (Tests using Kodak/Diamond Data 4x CD-RW)

You can use non-standard VBR MPEG-1 for VCDs.
You can use up to 720x576 resolution for SVCD!

Apparently the versions of these Voxson/Mustek/Yukai/AWA players
that use the VOL+/- region code are based on a newer Winbond
chipset and there is no macrovision ON/OFF control. These also don't play
miniDVD (I haven't tested yet). But when you can play a SVCD with
720x576 resolution and 7000+ bitrate - isn't that close enough to
    miniDVD?

The ones that use the older region code are based on an ESS chipset. These do play miniDVD apparently, as well as playing straight burnt
    MPEG files!

I would highly recommend any of these:
    Voxson 260/320/330
    Mustek 520/560
AWA 520 (the small one from BigW in Australia)

The Voxson 330 (with 5.1 channel analogue out) is sold at Australian
Target stores for $319. (The 320 doesn't have analogue 5.1 out but
still has digital 5.1 outputs - optical and co-ax).

Anyone know how to remove the macrovision from the Winbond chipset?
