I have a Sony DRU-810A CD drive which I would like to install in a Dell Inspiron 580, but the connectors don't match.
Is there some sort of adapter I could use?

Why bother with a CDR drive when you can get a new SATA DVDR drive for $20?
The DRU-810 has an EIDE connetor.
If your mobo lacks EIDE you can add a PCI card such as Promise tx series or older Ultr66. Get a used one on ebay.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

The DRU-810A is actually a cd/dvd combo . . I accidentally broke the tray on the installed drive and I still have the Sony from my other computer . . was hoping maybe there was just a cheap adapter I could use. Since that's apparently not an option, probably better to buy a cheap SATA drive, as you suggest. Thanks so much for the help!

I believe that the DRU-810 is a dvd drive.
But I tend to agree with my friend above that by the time to invest in adpaters/connectors you could have obtained a drive that is suitable for the connectors you already have.
BTW You have not exactly helped getting a full answer to your question having failed to advise what actual connectors you have for both power and interface
