I'm working in FCP7 and I've got some .mts, .cr2 and .mp4 footage that I apparently need to find and download a codec for.

I found the website codecs.com and think I spotted a codec for the mp4 footage and maybe the cr2 footage, but most of my footage is the mts from a Panasonic camera. It seemed like the codecs I found might be for Windows based systems, though.

    Any advice?

FCP7 has no avchd(mts) support. See http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=751978 for some solutions.

Be more specific which camera and which recording format.

No need to solve all the Apple format phobias.

Thanks, Baldrick. I'm going to check that out now.

The camera is a Panasonic AG HMC 70. Thanks for the reply edDV.

Normal digital intermediates for Final Cut Pro are AIC or ProRes422.

You need to convert your AVCHD file to AIC digital intemediate.

Thx for the link, edDV. I downloaded the demo of Voltaic and am finally able to see the clips on my MacBook. Certainly a round-about way of doing things. Too bad Sony and Panasonic couldn't have reached some sort of agreement with FCP/Apple.

I see you're in NoCal - what do you do for a living? Are you an editor?

It is mostly an Apple problem where they limit compressed HD editing to their own digital intermediate codecs.

FCP 7 should import AVCHD. I don't have that version so can't point to the methods. Both iMovie and Final Cut Express will import AVCHD and convert to AIC.

I mostly do project engineering work in the TV broadcast and post industry but I also run a small event/post production business on the side. I have been editing video since the 80s on multiple platforms.
