  1. hi!

I have a sony DCR-HC23 handycam and I can't capture video from it to the computer. I just can use the USB, because I haven't firewire output in my computer. I tried out several programs to capturing, but none of them worked. I have already switched on the possibility to use the USB in my camera,so it can't be the problem.

    Please help !!!!

The USB transfer may only be for STILL images on the camera. I doubt you can transfer video via the USB connection.

The manual states that video and sound from the tape can be transferred by USB (you must turn USB STREAM to ON in the menu settings and install Sony's software), but that the quality is lower than firewire. It later states that recordings from tape can't be copied by USB on a Mac.

Just buy a firewire PCI addon board. They are cheap.

    Get Firewire for full quality.

The USB connection is most likely intended for web streaming and will be quarter resolution 352x240p and very low bit rate.

The only other option is analog capture off the S-Video port which will be reduced quality but better than USB.
