    Hi Use older editing software and will get new in the future to do basic video editing and slideshows on my PC : gigabyte GA-MA785GPM-US2H board--- Athlon IIx4 processor with 4 gigs memory running XP pro and SP3. What version of netframework do i install? Thanks PS I use this to do photo and video edinting only, no internet. Can i turn off IE or just use IE8 ?

    I would install Net 3.5 as it supersedes 2.0. A few older programs might look for Net 1.1, but I believe you can install that afterwards.

    You can't exactly 'turn off IE', but you should be able to upgrade to IE 8. I would rather have IE 6, but to each his own.

    Netframework errors give a clue. Best to install all up to app required.

  4. As edDV said, it just depends on your applications. You don't have to have a .NET Framework installed unless you want to run an application that depends on it. Usually that application will install it for you or instruct you to install it. If not, you'll know you need it when you get an error message when you try to run an application that depends on a version of .NET Framework that is not installed. You can have all of the .NET Framework version installed side by side if needed. If you don't have any applications installed that require .NET, but want to install one just to have it installed, I'd go with the latest version which is currently 4.
